June 8 2012

Today was the beginning of the Luther Hochzeit! The streets of Wittenberg are so changed! Normally the streets are pretty clear, at certain times of the day there is a nice flow of people, sometimes a tourist group, that sort of thing, but now, all of a sudden the streets are packed with people and carts, cars and booths and food, SO MUCH FOOD! All of it looks incredible.
We still had class today; we began by working on our biography of Luther and then having to present what we found for our sections in simple sentences. I just had three about when Luther was at the Diet of Worms:
1. Am 2 April 1521 Luther reist (reisen = to travel, journey) nach Worms.
2.  Der Kaiser wollte Luther seine lehren zuruckzunehmen.
3. Aber Luther sagte er will nicht widerrufen (widerrufen= take back words, retract)
After that we started on the second part of the project, writing dialogues for the play we would then have to practice for (which is the third part of the mini-project).  For my section I just wrote:
Kaiser:  “Luther! Nimm deine Worte zuruck!”
Luther: “Ich will nicht widerrufen!”
We practiced what we had and then it was time for lunch and then our third class. At lunch I went to Herr Weigel’s across the way for a bratwurst and had a short chat with Herr Weigel the fact that we were able to understand each other was very encouraging. I think I am seeing the improvement in being able to communicate, especially in the confidence to do it.
