To be honest, I’m not sure yet what sort of culture shock
I’ve had. Other than a few small things I haven’t felt a major
difference. I may be homesick, but that wouldn’t matter what country I was in,
I get frustrated by the language barrier, but that isn’t really what most
people mean by culture shock either. Some of the little things are tough to
remember; like that the doors mainly open in, not out. Walking into doors is getting to be rather painful.
Maybe the one thing I can mention is the
way they don’t smile or really acknowledge you when you walk by. In Missouri
everyone smiles and waves or acknowledges. It is very fake most of the time but
they do it, it is expected. Once my family moved to Missouri we started doing it as
well to a degree because if you didn’t people thought you were unfriendly. Here
it is the opposite. I like it, but I guess it still has an element of culture shock to it, since it is a noticeable difference from
the Missouri Culture.
